November 29, 2018

Dear Bill:

Yesterday we raised $280 from 8 donors, bringing our grand totals to $57,305 from 36 donors.  Thank you to all who have donated towards our ambitious targets of $250,000 from 1,250 donors by midnight Dec 31.
Dear Friends,

The annual fund-raising campaign of the Fluoride Action Network, the organization leading the fight against fluoridation worldwide, is under way and will run to the end of December.

As it did last year, FAN is seeking to raise $250,000 to continue its work against fluoridation, using a small staff and many volunteers. I'm happy to support this effort and hope you will consider doing so too, in whatever amount you can afford.

Since attending the FAN convention near Washington, D.C., in 2017 with my wife, Sue, I’ve continued to work with FAN’s Advisory Committee, helping in a small way to plan ongoing campaign efforts. This has been both gratifying and humbling. Gratifying to participate in work so important with highly qualified and committed leaders. And humbling to witness the relentless, shoulders-to-the wheel determination of both staff and volunteers.

In nearly five years of anti-fluoridation work, I’ve appreciated FAN's science-based and honest effort to prevail in a politically-charged debate. FAN’s integrity persists in the face of well-funded and cynical efforts to promote fluoridation. We face opponents who value public relations over science. They appeal to authorities who have impressive titles but are far removed from the moving edge of fluoride science.
It is discouraging to push a boulder uphill. But as I see it, the boulder is not rolling back on us. We are chocking that boulder it as we go, raising it ever higher toward our goal: an end to fluoridation.

FAN bulletins show our progress. Our and others’ lawsuit under the Toxic Substances Control Act, and continuing victories at the local level, keep us attuned and encouraged. I’m convinced that we, through science and common sense, will succeed. (Meanwhile I continue my own boulder-rolling in my home town of Rutland, Vt. I have faith that this effort, too, will succeed.)

Please consider a donation to FAN. It fights not only for your and my health and right to choose what we put in our bodies but for the very integrity of science.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays,

Jack Crowther

Local authorities are responsible for providing or commissioning oral health promotion programmes locally. When asked in a recent survey 51% of responding local authorities’ programmes include supervised tooth brushing in early years and school settings; and 46% reported targeted provision of toothbrushes and toothpaste, further results can be found via the following link:
These activities are explicitly supported by Commissioning Better Oral Health a toolkit produced by Public Health England (PHE) and a toolkit supporting supervised tooth brushing programmes in early years settings. The report can be accessed via the following link:

Ireland - Councillors call for fluoridation of water to be optional

Councillors call for fluoridation of water to be optional
Rob McNamara

WATER fluoridation should be optional, say Cork County Council, who will ask for the mandatory process to be ended.

The practice is undertaken by the Government to reduce tooth decay. Fluoridated water can prevent cavities.

A Food Safety Authority of Ireland report this year found there was no risk to public health from exposure to the mineral.

However, Councillor Diarmaid Ó Cadhla (IND) said there is continuing evidence linking fluoride to cancer, osteoporosis, and genetic damage.

“Since it was introduced, over five decades ago, it has been abandoned by almost every country in Europe, everywhere except Ireland. I believe that we are the only state on Earth which makes it a legal obligation to add fluoride to public drinking water.

“Across Europe, government after government have condemned the practice of adding fluoride to the public water supply, as dangerous and unethical,” he added.

Christopher O’Sullivan (FF) had a motion passed in 2014, by Cork County Council, asking for the practice to be stopped and he believes it now needs to be revisited.

“There should be no mandatory fluoridation and it should become a choice,” he said.

A spokesperson for County Hall said: “Fluoridation of drinking water is carried out on behalf of the HSE, in accordance with the advice of the Irish Expert Body on Fluoride. Irish Water, as the water services authority, provides fluoridation on designated schemes for the HSE and recoups incurred costs from them. Cork County Council water services staff carry out these functions for Irish Water under a service level agreement.”

Water fluoridation has been in operation in Ireland since 1964, in public, piped water supplies, with between 0.6 and 0.8 milligrams per litre. The Irish Expert Body on Fluoride said there are no known side-effects to water fluoridation, other than dental fluorosis.

Fluoridation is not common in Europe, but the United States, Canada, the UK, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, South Africa, Singapore, Hong Kong, Columbia, and Chile have fluoridation schemes.

Southern Missouri town stops adding fluoride to water; dentists predict tooth decay

Nearly two thirds of voters in the Texas County town of Houston decided to stop adding fluoride to the city’s water, but dentists serving the area are saying the change will lead to an increase in tooth decay.
Opponents of water fluoridation call it government overreach, and cited studies that question the long-term health effects adding fluoride.
Water from taps in Houston, Missouri, no longer include fluoride.
CREDIT WIKIMEDIA COMMONS
But dentists who serve the region in southern Missouri are calling those studies flawed.
“What has happened, over time, is that because of the internet, what you can’t get published in a peer reviewed scientific journal is posted on social media as science,” said Joe Richardson, a dentist who has practiced in Houston since 1980.
Texas County business owner George Sholtz was one of the proponents of putting the measure on the ballot. "I was happy when the city council allowed the people to decide," Sholtz said. "The government shouldn't medicate the masses without their consent."
Richardson said numerous scientific studies over the past 70 years have proven water fluoridation is safe and helps reduce cavities by 25 percent. Most water suppliers add fluoride.
Richardson and other dentists are concerned that without fluoride in the water, tooth decay will be on the rise, especially among children.
“Whenever you look at toothaches in families who don’t have dental insurance or can’t afford good dental care, sometimes the kids will end up in the emergency room,” Richardson said. “That means missed days of school, and parents missing work to take care of their kids. It’s a real problem.”

“I’ve seen definite change in the last 16 years. And no, it won’t happen fast, but it will go back to seeing more problems,” Richardson said.
Houston’s water works serves about 1,100 homes and businesses in the town of 2,000, with the water coming from three wells. Houston started adding fluoride to the water in 2002. Since then, Richardson said he noticed an improvement in his patients’ teeth.
Fluoridation opponents attempted to get the city council to end the practice two years ago, but the council voted it down 4-2. But this past year with two new members on the council, the opponents brought in national advocates and convinced city officials to put the issue to voters who this month approved it by 62 percent.
“We stopped adding the fluoride to the water pretty much immediately after the vote because that’s what the people want,” said city administrator Tona Bowen. “It may take a while for all the fluoride to leave the water system, but we’re on our way.”
Richardson isn't  ready to give up on the issue. He said the city can resume adding fluoride to the water, but it may take time.
“Yes, we will revisit it,” Richardson said. “It will take time and it will take change in city leadership.”

Fluoride For Babies: Is It Safe?

Fluoride for Babies

Parents should begin cleaning their baby's mouth as soon as they come home from the hospital by wiping their gums with gauze or a washcloth. As soon as that first tooth appears, it's at risk for decay. That's why the ADA recommends using a bit of fluoride toothpaste on your baby's first tooth.
When helping your child brush their teeth twice a day, use a smear (no bigger than a grain of rice) of fluoride toothpaste for children younger than 3 years old and a pea-sized amount for children 3 to 6 years old. Have your child spit out the toothpaste as soon as they are able to do so.
Topical fluoride applications, such as fluoride gels or varnishes, are routine procedures for most children during their dental checkup appointments. Varnishes are easier to apply to the teeth of younger children, allowing treatments to begin at an early age.

Right diet you wouldn't need to give treatment to babies.

#GivingTuesday
Our annual fundraiser is off to a great start.  Between yesterday--which was #GivingTuesday--and Monday we raised $2,025 from 24 donors.  This is added to $55,000 that was contributed just prior to the start of our fundraiser by several large donors.  Together, this brings our current totals to $57,025 from 28 donors en route to our ambitious targets of $250,000 from 1,250 donors by midnight Dec 31.
Thank you to all who have contributed early in our fundraiser, hopefully inspiring others to give as our annual campaign continues over the next five weeks.
In the new video below, FAN’s Environmental Justice Director, Robin Lewis, discusses why a donation to this often-neglected cause is so important.  If not FAN, who will raise awareness, lobby elected officials, build the grassroots campaigns, educate the media, professionals, and citizens, and maintain the databases necessary to end fluoridation?

Millions Freed From Fluoridation
If the dental and chemical lobbies had their way, you would never know about the millions of people who live in communities that have successfully fought to prohibit the addition of fluoridation chemicals to their drinking water.  Fluoridationists would like us all to believe that the practice is continuing to expand, and that the trend is firmly in favor of more towns initiating the practice.  However, this is just more propaganda, as the CDC’s own stats and our records of community victories have affirmed.
Since 2010, at least 245 communities representing approximately 7.2 million people have chosen--either by referendum or by council vote--to prohibit fluoridation (see list of local victories).  More than 500 communities throughout the world have ended existing fluoridation programs or rejected new efforts to fluoridate since 1990, adding millions more freed from fluoridation. Most of these victories were the result of citizens organizing local campaigns and voicing their opposition to public officials, with many working in coordination with FAN or using our materials to educate their neighbors and local decision-makers about the serious health risks associated with the practice.

These numbers don't even reflect the residents who have been spared from countless attempts to pass statewide fluoridation mandates in recent years, which FAN has helped defeat.  In 2018 alone, four seperate mandate bills in Hawaii and New Jersey were met with significant opposition and failed to even pass out of the first committees where they were considered.  If passed, over 5-million people would have had fluoridation chemicals forced upon them, regardless of local opposition and at the expense of taxpayers with no say in the matter.
(Hawaii Representative and Health Committee Chairman John Muzino--far left & I'm on far right--was instrumental in defeating mandate bills in 2018.  He told me, “I will never let a fluoride bill pass.”)
Maybe even more distressing for the dental-lobby, is the fact that the most recent fluoridation statistics from the US Centers for Disease Control show that for the first time in nearly 40 years the percentage of the U.S. population served by community water systems receiving fluoridated water decreased, from 74.6% to 74.4%.  The percentage of the U.S. population receiving so-called “optimally fluoridated” water (natural and artificial) also decreased, from 67.1% to 66.3%, as did the number of water systems adding fluoride chemicals.
This means that with your help, our movement has stopped the behemoth fluoridation-lobby in their tracks, and have reversed the expansion of fluoridation that has been occurring since the ‘40s.
Since the CDC’s 2014 stats were collected, the momentum has only continued to trend in our favor.  Our data shows that 79% of community or council votes on fluoridation in the U.S. over the past 5 years were prompted by residents or officials calling for an end to fluoridation, not for implementation of it.  And every attempt to initiate fluoridation has been at the request of dentists and their lobbyists, not independent residents.
The most recent evidence of this trend was the fluoridation referendum success we had in 2018.  On election day, Springfield, Ohio (pop. served 85,000+) voted 53%-47% to defeat a fluoridation proposal, while residents of Houston, Missouri voted 62%-38% to end their longstanding fluoridation program.  Just two weeks before these two votes, the citizens of Parry Sound, Ontario resoundingly re-affirmed their opposition to the practice.  And in April, a staggering 73% of voters in Edgartown, Massachusetts overwhelming overturned a vote by their health board to initiate fluoridation.
It’s crucial we maintain this momentum, so we can ensure that fluoridation becomes a thing of the past for you and the world.  FAN is dedicated to creating more resources for campaigners, providing more analysis on key studies, recruiting more professionals to support local campaigners, raising greater awareness in the media and among decisionmakers, and assisting advocates for safe water around the globe with their campaigns.  With your generous financial help, we can make ending water fluoridation the greatest public health achievement of the 21st Century.

Arkansas Water Fluoridation (Hydrofluosilic Acid) mandate must end

Jason McNabb,
Mountain Home
As accumulating health studies and litigation come nearer to forcing the U.S. EPA to ban, nation-wide, the deliberate addition of fluoride into public water supplies, we, as Arkansans, should inform ourselves regarding the current science on ingested fluoride as well as Arkansas’ law mandating the practice.
The CDC and ADA classify ingested fluoride as ‘safe and effective’ – a classification once shared by such substances as DDT (’39–’72), asbestos (1890–1973), leaded gas and paint (’24–‘96), and synthetic estrogen (DES) (’40–’75).  Meanwhile, a growing body of research from the Harvard School of Public Health, the National Research Council and other bodies has classified ingested fluoride as a neurotoxin, linked it to wide-spread health maladies—neurological, skeletal, and endocrinological—and urged further research into its accumulative and whole-body effects, especially on the young and elderly.
As cities across the U.S.—and nearly all of Australia, Britain, and Canada—were voting down existing water fluoridation programs and joining 97 percent of Western Europe in non-fluoridation, the Arkansas legislature, in 2011, passed Act 197 mandating fluoridation of all water systems serving 5,000 people or more.
Act 197-2011 overturned previous citizen de-fluoridation votes in towns including Ft. Smith, Hot Springs, and Texarkana; consequently, over 30 municipal water districts sued the state over the Act, lost, appealed, and were overruled in their appeals.  In 2017, the Arkansas Senate City, County, and Local Affairs Committee refused to allow Senate bill SB 299—a bill to restore citizen sovereignty over fluoridation—to be brought before the Arkansas general assembly for either discussion or vote.
Ingested fluoride is an issue separate from topical (dental) application of pharmaceutical-grade sodium fluoride.  Ingested fluoride describes the addition to public water supplies of fluoride in the form of hydrofluosilic acid—a toxic by-product of the phosphorus (fertilizer) and other earth mining industries that, were it not re-packaged and sold to municipalities as a ‘product’, would require environmental clean-up and disposal fees to be paid by its producers.  Absorbable through the skin, once dissolved in water fluoride is removable only through the processes of reverse-osmosis, de-ionization, or activated alumina filtration.
The MSDS for Mountain Home’s acid, Act 197-2011’s text, and a sample of recent studies on ingested fluoride may be viewed at {https://jasonmcnabb7.wixsite.com/informyourself}.
Mt. Home began fluoridating their water after a citizen vote in 1978 during the height of CDC/ADA propaganda.
We should ask ourselves:
Should any chemical be allowed in our public water supply for the sole purpose of affecting a human physiological response without consent, prior medical consultation or individual dosage control?
Should we allow past ignorance to direct our future in the face of improved understanding?
Most importantly: should citizens be denied a vote over what substances are added to their publicly funded water supplies?
I hope all will consider what effects both our water quality and our degree of local citizen control have on our health, our society, and our futures and inform yourself and others on this issue.  May God bless.

#GivingTuesday
Today--the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the U.S.--is referred to as "Giving Tuesday," and is a movement to create an international day of giving back by contributing to a charitable cause you find important.
According to CDC stats, after 70 years of the number of communities adding fluoridation chemicals increasing, the number is now going down in the U.S. thanks to local campaigners, the Fluoride Action Network, AND YOU. Together, we've reversed the growth, now you can help us finish the job.
But while it is not easy, our effort gets more and more urgent with each passing year because of the continuing revelations of the dangers posed to our children, especially with respect to the development of their brains.  The latest examples were the three blockbuster studies linking fluoridation to hypothyroidism, ADHD, and high levels of fluoride in pregnant women.
We now have over 150 animal studies that show that fluoride can interfere with various aspects of brain function; 45 studies that show that fluoride interferes with the ability of animals to learn and remember and 53 human studies that have associated exposure to fluoride with loss of IQ. And some of the best of these studies have been funded by the U.S. government and have been carried out at doses exceeded by many children in fluoridated communities.  The urgency to end fluoridation couldn't be any greater.
Our upcoming annual December fundraiser is going to be critical in helping to keep our winning momentum going in the face of a dental and chemical-lobby that continues to dig deeper into their pockets to defeat us.  A #GivingTuesday donation will help to give us a strong start going into our fundraising drive, no doubt inspiring more supporters to invest in an end to fluoridation.
Please consider giving a tax-deductible donation to a charitable cause that will protect your water, your health, and your personal freedom. Contribute to an end to forced fluoridation.

Journal Requests Fluoride Research
A special issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health will focus on “The Harmful Effects of Fluoride Exposure,” and the journal is currently requesting papers on the topic from any interested researchers.  The deadline for submission is July 31, 2019.
Dr. Hardy Limeback (Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto) and Professor Dr. William Potter (Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Tulsa) will be the guest editors of the special fluoride issue, and made the following statement:
Although fluoride is widely used for dental and industrial applications, our understanding of chronic and sub-acute mechanisms for fluoride toxicity are incomplete.  Nevertheless, environmental exposures to fluoride from a wide range of consumer products and industrial sources are still increasing.  New studies support a growing body of evidence that fluoride should be classified as a neurological toxicant and that the interplay between fluoride toxicity depends greatly on other nutritional and immunological factors. Advancing our knowledge of genetic, developmental and comorbidity susceptibilities to fluoride toxicity are needed.  This special issue invites papers to evaluate and monitor the many factors regarding fluoride exposures and mechanisms of toxicity.
To learn more about this issue, as well as how to submit your research, click here.  Please also share the link with your colleagues, and print this special issue flyer to post in locations where fellow researchers may see it.

WHAT THEY DO NOT TELL YOU ABOUT FLOURIDE AND VACCINES

FLOURIDE
Flouride concerns me, Why we add it to our water supply, when Europe, with the exception of Nazi Germany, does not? Why Mexico and the United States decided to do so after the war when evidence that large concentrations can yield lower IQ scores, and keep people docile?
Yes, it is true that in the re-mineralization of the enamel in your teeth that fluoride makes a much stronger and more acid resistant Amalgam than the natural one it replaces. Furthermore, I know this to be a discovery from the early part of the 20th century from a town with a well in which Fluoride was present in concentration and that those people had considerably less tooth decay than everybody else. I also know that if research has been done on the 3800 known minerals into what might also yield a high-value tooth enamel hardening amalgam other than TOXIC FLUORIDE, this information is not easily found on the internet, and therefore I am suspicious if any research was done at all.
Which brings me to a conversation I had with a Dentist when I took my 3-year-old in for her second visit. When asked why Flouride, his response was that it was a critical ingredient in human Tooth enamel (not true, but technically once fluoride mineralization in tooth enamel has occurred it is.) He claimed that thorough tests were done and this was the Ideal outcome. (again not true, and in this case, ASS TALK.)
So the takeaway, Fluoride will make you docile and stupid, three countries, the US, Mexico and Nazi Germany have added it to their water supply. It is toxic, and it does remineralize human tooth enamel to an amalgam that is stronger and more acid resistant than the natural mineral state of human teeth. Are there better less toxic minerals that could be used? Most surely there are, but they have never been tested, the whole of the Dental community has this attitude of “We know best, your questions are stupid, and it isn’t broken so why fix it.”
Now you know what I know, and when you get talked down to by the world of ‘know betters’ you will have the data they cannot refute and the key challenge, where are the studies on other minerals for human teeth? Why were they not done, and when do you plan on starting that research. oh and by the way I have a High concentrate of Mercury and Flouride water here for you to drink before we (the angry mob) will tolerate you smart ass from leaving the building. Bottoms up! Why do I add the Mercury? Simple we have known now for over 90 years that there is no safe level of Mercury for humans, None! And yet, the professional dental community, to this day does push back on the continued argument that silver-mercury amalgam fillings were and still are safe. It took forever for them to develop any non-mercury alternative. It exists now, and they have at least become somewhat passive and accommodating with those of us who do not want these ‘Mercury Fillings’ in our mouths. But they will charge you more for the non-toxic composite fillings none-the-less. And last I checked you still cannot successfully sue your Dentist for the potential harm of those old Mercury fillings.
So anyways a little science, a lot of skepticism and hopefully we can act with a little more information into what and how much of the BS we need to tolerate. As a society, challenging the nice pat answers of a couple of generations ago should be considered wise and normal. When we do, our paid by our tax dollar experts should listen, treat our concerns with the highest gravity and respond with respect and action, scientific action. They can respect our challenges and do the research or they can STFU.

FAN Newsletter

We begin our annual fundraiser today, a few days earlier than usual. We are doing this for two reasons a) to take advantage of #GivingTuesday (tomorrow) and b) our 2019 campaign promises to be our most demanding and exciting ever.
In August 2019 we will have our TSCA lawsuit heard in San Francisco. We have an extremely strong scientific case, which gets stronger with each published study on fluoride's impact on the brains and endocrine system of the developing fetus. Our readers and supporters know this - because we keep them informed on an almost daily basis - but unfortunately most of the rest of the country is not being informed or warned by the mainstream media, professional bodies or health departments. All of these bodies seem intent on protecting this morally bankrupt and outdated practice rather than protecting the health and well being of the public.
So in 2019 we are going to have to pull out all the stops to get this news about these US-government funded studies to as many people as possible - especially pregnant women. To this end FAN has a Moms2B campaign; has launched a New Professionals Statement and will soon introduce a General statement that anyone can sign regardless of credentials. We will also be issuing media releases on a regular basis and supporting your local campaigns however and wherever we can. All of this takes a professional team and a professional team takes money.
So please consider a tax-deductible donation to FAN. If we don't warn the people about this dangerous practice who will?
This year we are aiming to reach $250,000 from 1250 donors by midnight Dec 31. The good news is that in November we have already raised over $55,000, which includes 3 very large donations from individuals and  $25,000 from a small family foundation.
All donations large and small are important to us. The former to help get us to our total and the latter to impress foundations with our active and supportive membership.
