Australia - Councillor demands tough stance against fluoridation

Councillor demands tough stance against fluoridation

Warrnambool city councillor Peter Hulin wants his colleagues to take a tougher stand against water fluoridation.

Fluoride was added to the city's water supply in September last year, but the move was not without controversy.

A report to tonight's council meeting recommends it leave the issue of water fluoridation to the State Government.

But Cr Hulin says the council should stand up for the residents who oppose fluoridation.

"With the massive meetings that were held in Warrnambool against the fluoridation of our water supply, I firmly believe that the council cannot just disregard that, I think we were elected to represent the people and in a democracy that is what we have to do," he said.

  • "Like mercury (dental fillings), fluoride is not an obvious choice for dental health. The reason for this: It’s a poison – more poisonous than lead and slightly less poisonous than arsenic.

The fluoride used in toothpaste, mouth rinses and dental gels usually is sodium fluoride – a waste product from the aluminium industry.

The fluoride added to our water supply is hydrofluorosilic acid or sometimes silicofluoride – waste products of the fertiliser and glass industries."

If this has been proven, then why is the water still being fluoridated? I think fluoridation of water should be banned immediately. If the governing body still resists of water fluoridation then they are obviously trying to kill people pn purpose.

  • Perhaps a class action brought against councils by ratepayers who have iodine difficient illnesses might cause councils to reconsider flouridating water supplies ???
