The Department of Health aims to improve the health and well being of the people of England and provide high quality health and social care. Building on Choosing Better Oral Health, the Oral Health Plan for England, as the Government’s second most senior dental adviser you will play a significant part in improving oral health and reducing inequalities.You will be responsible for delivering agreed objectives regarding the work programme of the Dental and Eye Care Branch of the Department: ensuring Ministers receive high quality advice, supporting stakeholders in policy development and delivery and ensuring guidance is up-to-date and evidencebased. Other key tasks will include leading on water fluoridation policy, supporting the NHS in commissioning dental services and planning new initiatives and chairing bi-monthly Regional Dental Public Health Network meetings. You will also deputise for the Chief Dental Officer and as appropriate, supervise trainees in higher specialist training.The role calls for significant current experience in Dental Public Health, a post graduate qualification and full GDC registration. Candidates should also be included on the GDC’s Specialist List for Dental Public Health. Substantial involvement at national and local level in dental professional organizations and committees, a strong publication record and the delivery of lectures and presentations will have helped you acquire a high level of personal credibility across dentistry as a whole. Energetic, focused and capable of prioritising to deadlines, you will be a first class communicator, influencer and networker with proven management skills. The ability to travel within the UK will also be essential.This post is a Senior Civil Service appointment and falls within the SCS pay band 1 range (up to £74,298). However, if successful and currently a consultant in receipt of NHS pay, you will have the option of retaining these pay terms subject to negotiation. The post is offered on a full time, permanent basis, but secondment and flexible working patterns will also be considered.
