USA - Green cows sold right here in Tennessee

Green cows sold right here in Tennessee
As food prices continue to rise, many families are forced to choose lower quality items for a cheaper price. Turns out, an answer might not be too far away.
Georgiana Kotarski could be called a new age cattlewoman. She raises more than 30 cows and calves on her Bledsoe County, Tennessee farm and is part of a growing trend: local farmers who sell half or whole cows directly to consumers. Her animals are given no antibiotics or hormones and they eat no grain, only the green grass that covers the fifty acre farm.
"The grass doesn't have any chemical," Kotarski said. "They drink the same well water I drink with no chlorine or fluoride and they live a stress free live which adds to quality of beef as well as enjoyment of raising them." It helps the quality too. Her beef is some of the best around and unlike most meat found at supermarkets, the history is clear. "People want to know where food is coming from," Kotarski said. "They're scared of hearing all the news all the problems with food; they want to see for themselves where it's coming from."
Ginny Allen is one of those people. She's at Red Gates Farm to find out about buying her share of a cow. "You usually hear about it after people have gotten sick," Allen said. "I want to know where the cows came from and how they were raised. I can point out in field where they come from - it's not a random cow."
Allen's purchased bulk beef before. She loves the taste, quality and safety of it, knowing her family is getting the best. But Allen says the price is hard to beat too, an average of $3 a pound for everything from steaks to ground beef. "I think it saves me money in the long run," Allen said. "We get steaks roasts and ground beef a lot leaner then what we see in the grocery store."WRCB-TV Chattanooga, TN
