Canada - Golden water not treated; tastes great
Golden water not treated; tastes greatAug 08 2007Before I became a resident of Golden, when I was visiting with a friend in the winter, we both had occasion to drink Golden water straight from the tap. I had come from Kamloops, where they have a state-of-the-art water treatment centre that’s visited regularly by representatives from cities all over the world. He had come from a town in northern Alberta. We both agreed that the water here in Golden tasted much better than the tap water in our respective towns. We couldn’t get enough of it. Now, after living here, learning about the water system, and finding out that it’s not chlorinated, nor fluorinated, I can understand why it tastes so good. Chlorine and fluoride are not the most healthy or pleasant-tasting water additives in the world, and in my opinion, we’re better off without them. The less chemicals in the water I drink, the better. I will freely and heartily drink untreated water from fast-flowing mountain streams that animals pass through regularly. I’m a firm believer that the more bacteria that you take into your body, the more resistant you will become to them. Yet we insist on getting rid of all the bacteria we can. We’ve become a sterilized society. People regularly use soaps, sprays, and cleaners that are labeled anti-bacterial on their bodies and in their homes. But millions of different bacteria coexist with our bodies on a daily basis, and by eliminating them on a regular basis, we’re just making them enemies of our bodies, instead of allies. But back to the matter at hand, water. The water in Golden comes from wells deep beneath the ground which are protected by layers and layers of rock a. It’s tested daily and delivered to us through pipes which are sterilized annually. Animals regularly drink from streams, lakes and ponds with no ill effects. Just a few hundred years ago, before we became divorced from the land, humans did the exact same thing. So after being given this perspective, you can feel free to make your own decision about the safety of drinking water in Golden. But as soon as the chlorine is removed from the pipes, I’ll be drinking freely from the taps here in Golden again.
