NZ - Maori's ignored
Fluoridation of public water supplies has begun in Kaikohe and Kaitaia, despite a last-minute bid by Maori authorities to stall it.
The Ngapuhi Runanga in Kaikohe and the Te Rarawa Runanga in Kaitaia had asked the council to delay the move, citing a lack of consultation.
However the Far North District Council says contractors began adding fluoride to the town water in both communities last weekend.
Fluoridation in the Far North has been paid for by the Ministry of Health as a two-year trial, aimed at improving tooth decay in children.
