USA - Give fluoride to those who want it, but keep it out of the water

Give fluoride to those who want it, but keep it out of the water

Well, it looks like, short of a miracle, that the people of Watsonville are going to have their water fluoridated. I attended and spoke at the Jan. 26 City Council meeting. First, I would like to thank council members Nancy Bilicich, Greg Caput and Emilio Martinez for standing up for the citizens opposed to fluoridation. These three get that our rights are being ignored.

Unfortunately, the State of California, the other four council members, and the dental group do not care about the health and well-being of the people. I would also like to thank Dr. David Biles, a dentist in Santa Cruz, who courageously spoke on our behalf. He is the only dentist in the county, that I know of, who is honest enough to say this is bad.

In my little speech to the City Council I said that if this goes through I will not eat in Watsonville restaurants or buy produce from local stores, as the water would be polluted with this poisoned water. One of the council members, in his closing remarks, said he resented being threatened with boycotts. He actually said if we did not like it, we should leave California.

We also have John Martinelli, who will not use this water and will have to pay big amounts to put in a system to filter out this water that he needs to use in his flavored juice. So this is also affecting businesses.

I am not against fluoride for people who wish it, but not in the water. That brings me to what people need to know. The water faucet-type purifiers will not remove fluoride. It takes a reverse-osmosis process and that only removes about 93 percent of it. These are costly and are only used mainly in the kitchen area. Also, purchasing a reverse-osmosis system is an unnecessary expense to the residents of Watsonville.

If we can find an honest lawyer, we need to sue the State of California. As one man said, “Why vote?”

One councilman also said that we should not be criticizing our government and pushing conspiracy theories. I seem to remember that I still have freedom of speech and don’t need a lecture from someone who does not care for the legal citizens of his constituency, but is more interested in the people who are not even legal citizens.

Here is what residents concerned for their health face: If you boil fluoridated water, that makes it even more potent. Babies under 2 years of age are not to have fluoride, anyone with thyroid disease should not be drinking it, and older people need to avoid it because it makes their bones brittle. Anyone with a compromised immune system should not be drinking this, either.

Since the furor of the original fight, there has been more and more scientific evidence about this, including a study that shows increased bone cancer in young boys.

And now we have the article revealing the duplicity of our mayor. We need a real, elected mayor, not a yearly musical-chairs version picked by council members.
