A new campaign has begun to stop the Ballina Shire Council from adding fluoride to the shire's drinking water.
The Ballina and District Citizens and Ratepayers Association is holding a public meeting tonight.
The council decided last year to add fluoride to water to improve dental health in the region.
But association president Ralph Moss says many people remain unhappy with the decision because of health concerns about the chemical.
"The fluoride that they're using is classified as an s6 poison," he said.
"That is the same classification as heavy metals.
"This substance called silicon-fluoride and silico-fluoride, they affect the immature immune systems."
