The US Centers for Disease Control reports fluoridation chemicals are newly allowed to be even more contaminated so growing demand for the chemical can be satisfied.According to the CDC, In the past few years, there have been several instances when fluoride additives were unavailable. A factor that may increase supply is a recent modification to the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Fluoride Standard B703-08 on fluorosilicic acid, which allows an increase in the color content of fluorosilicic acid, largely as a result of iodine content. (See www.cdc.gov/fluoridation/pdf/fall2009_newsletter.doc )After a thorough review, AWWA allows an increase in color from 100 Platinum-Cobalt Color units to 200 units. This will effectively increase iodine from 0.44 μg/L (micrograms per liter) to 0.72 μg/L, which represents an increase in iodine of 0.28 μg/L NSF International, the governing body over water additives allows water fluoride chemicals to contain trace amounts of lead, arsenic, mercury and other toxins.
