USA - Recognition of consistent fluoride dose.

The Blount County Health Department recognized the City of Maryville on Tuesday, Dec. 1, for its efforts to fluoridate their water supply.

The Tennessee Department of Health recently announced that the City of Maryville Department of Water Quality Control, TN 438 has been awarded a Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta Georgia. Community water fluoridation has been recognized by CDC as one of 10 great public health achievements of the 20th Century.

“Water fluoridation set to the optimum level for oral health is a safe and effective method to prevent tooth decay and improve the oral health of our community residents of all ages,” said Micky Roberts, Blount County health director.

Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in the public water supply to a level that is optimal for preventing tooth decay. The CDC award recognizes communities that have maintained a consistent level of optimally fluoridated water for the calendar year.
The Tennessee Department of Health supports community water fluoridation as part of its overall Oral Health Services initiatives. For more information, visit the Web at http://health.state.tn.us/oralhealth/index.html.

Are there communities that don't achieve a consistent level?
