Uk - Don't go swallowing fluoride

Don't go swallowing fluoride
Date: 04 December 2009

Colin Shaw quotes a dentist as saying that to be effective in preventing tooth decay, fluoride must be ingested (swallowed)!
I would ask that your paper immediately print a correction to this potentially life-threatening statement from Colin Shaw in your esteemed paper! Do not swallow fluoridated toothpaste, be sure to spit!
This is in fact dangerous to public health, and if the dentist he apparently quoted was adoctor he could be struck off for advising such a dangerous procedure, and perhaps does not know that 20,000 fluoride poisoning cases are admitted to poisons units in the US every year due to fluoride toothpaste being swallowed. (The UK does not keep such records!)
This kind of dangerous ignorance by dental professionals underlines the need to remove fluoride as a supplement from all foods and tooth care products and clearly weakens their case of supreme knowledge in regard to the safety and efficacy of drinking-water fluoridation.
In regard to adding fluoride to tap water, all experts on fluorides (including those who support the pro-fluoride lobby) know perfectly well that, if fluoride doses are on the high side, teeth and bones will be damaged by dental and skeletal fluorosis (fluoride poisoning).
The advocates of fluoridation claim that safety margins to avoid harmful side-effects from excess are wide enough.
The opponents of fluoridation can draw attention to evidence that clearly indicates that, with fluoridation dosages as recommended, safety margins (if any) are extremely narrow and that these levels are based on outdated and flimsy scientific evidence and can not justify fluoridation as safe or effective.
There is no need to become emotive about this issue, except when individuals realise that the powers-that-be are determined to inflict the dangers of drinking-water fluoridation on the old and young, the fit and unwell, with seemingly little regard to the large variations in the amount of water individuals may drink.
I trust this puts the situation a little clearer for your readers.
