The Department of Human Services say it is unlikely to change its mind about fluoridating water supplies at Kerang and Swan Hill.

The Department is holding consultation meetings in the towns today and tomorrow, but says while there is a vocal minority opposed to fluoride, most people support it and it is an important public health measure.

Jan Bowman from the Department of Human Services says the aim of the meetings is to give the community balanced information about water fluoridation.

"People think various things about fluoride and they actually are concerned about whether it might be a poison or whether it might affect bones or cause cancer and we've got information that can show that that is not the case," she said.

Some consultation - somebody wants to wake up the people to the dangers of fluoridation.
