Cooloola council urges fluoride referendum
Posted 11 hours 3 minutes ago
The Cooloola Shire Council, in south-east Queensland, says the State Government should hold a referendum to gauge public opinion before fluoride is added to the water supply. The Government says it will work with councils to roll out the introduction of fluoride in an effort to cut the high level of tooth decay among Queenslanders. Mayor Mick Venardos says the Government's decision on fluoridation is worse than those on the Traveston Crossing dam and council amalgamations.
"Unlike other decisions that they've taken without consultation, this has now become a personal issue that affects people's health and I think the families should in fact have an opportunity to deal with this issue," he said.
