Nigeria - Medications can make teeth go bad

Mothers administer drugs on sick children in diverse ways, all in a bid to ensure they take them. Sade Oguntola, in this report submits that dentists warn that except it is done appropriately, medications like cough syrups, may end up destroying the children’s teeth..............

According to her, “we now see children about two years of age coming to the dental clinic with tooth ache as a result of sugary things they consume. Some even go to bed after taking sugary things, thus the sugar hastens the development of holes in their teeth”. She stated, “Sweet things, including medications should be taken at meal time instead of bedtime and ideally, the best thing to do is to wash the mouth after every meal with tooth brush and paste or rinse with water where washing with toothbrush is not feasible............
