Africa - Smelter fight like trying ‘to stop train which has left the station‘

Other issues include how the number of jobs that will be created is being balanced against the smog and fluoride pollution of nearby residential areas; the huge power demands of the smelter and the effect this will have on carbon dioxide generation from Eskom‘s power plants and global warming; and a proposed power line through the Karoo.

CDC spokesman Vuywelwa Qinga said fighting the project was “a bit like protesting against the stopping of a train in Port Elizabeth station when it has actually left for the next station”.

I bet they will still have to have it in their water for the sake of the children's teeth.
