Ireland - ‘Dept of Health liable for harmful effects of fluoride'

A failure by the Department of Health to carry out health studies on the fluoridation of water supplies has left it liable for the harmful effects of fluoridation of drinking water, according to Mr John Gormley, Joint Oireachtas Health Committee member, and Green Party member.
Mr Gormley said none of the 33 recommendations of the Forum on Fluoridation, which reported some years ago, have been implemented because of a failure to comply with sections of the Health (Fluoridation of Water Supplies) Act 1960.
The report, he said, aimed to “examine objectively the question of water fluoridation”. A key issue which the report focused on was water fluoridation and infant formula.
“It seems clear that fluoridated water should not be used in reconstituting infant formula for bottle fed babies.”
Another meeting is expected to take place this Wednesday.
