It’s shaped like a tiny pine cone, hence to ‘pineal’ name.
This tiny part of the brain is in control of melatonin production. Melatonin is a serotonin derivative that regulates hormones affecting the modulation of sleep/wake patterns.
The pineal gland is found close to the center of the brain sitting just between the two hemispheres.
