2016 Community Water Fluoridation Determination Awards

Congratulations to Francoise Mbabazi of Oral Health Colorado and Patti Ulrich of the Michigan Oral Health Coalition for being presented with the Community Water Fluoridation Determination Award at the fourth annual fluoridation meeting, Oral Health Equity: Building Coalitions to Tackle Disparities!

Oral Health Colorado and the Michigan Oral Health Coalition have displayed determination above and beyond their professional duty in promoting, protecting, advocating for and/or defending community water fluoridation, the most equitable method of preventing dental disease.

Oral Health Colorado

With challenges in Denver and no fewer than 5 other communities, Oral Health Colorado and an incredibly strong coalition defeated roll-back attempts and retained fluoridation in 5 of those communities.  The Campaign for Dental Health was pleased to present Francoise Mbabazi of Oral Health Colorado with the fluoridation determination award for their determination and hard fought wins.

Michigan Oral Health Coalition

In at least 8 separate Michigan communities, fluoridation decisions arose in the last two years.  Together with a strong coalition, they won in all eight communities. If that weren’t enough, many months before the severity of the crisis in Flint was known to the rest of the nation, advocates in Michigan were defending fluoridation from attacks by Erin Brockovich, as she mistakenly linked the emerging issue of lead in the water with fluoride. Advocates in Michigan have, to put it mildly, been working overtime! Again, for their determination and hard fought wins, the Campaign for Dental Health was pleased to present Patti Ulrich of the Michigan Oral Health Coalition with the fluoridation determination award.
