Regular dental checkups are 'vital'

Regular dental checkups are 'vital'
E Riding: Health managers at NHS Yorkshire And The Humber are warning people of the dangers of oral cancers and encouraging them to see their dentist for regular checkups.
Oral cancer rates have risen by 20 per cent nationally in the past 30 years and people who smoke and drink alcohol to excess are 30 times more likely to develop mouth cancer.
Jenny Godson, consultant in dental public health for NHS Yorkshire And The Humber, said: "It is vital to go to your dentist for checkups and not just to prevent tooth decay.
"A dentist is the person best placed to check a person's all round oral health.
"Oral cancers, like all cancers, are easier to treat if they are identified early and a patient has a much better chance of making a full recovery."

20% more oral cancers - I wonder why as less people smoke now could it be all the mouth washes and fluoride toothpaste?

  • True enough, dental visits should not be taken for granted because our teeth need special attention and dentists now use state of the art equipments to check our mouth. In addition, the teeth specialists can give us tips on how to take good care of our gums and teeth. During my son's first visit to the dentist in Murrells Inlet he was so excited because before we visited the clinic, he has been to the dentists Murrells Inlet, SC clinic to accompany me during my check-up. I want him to see that dentists are really nice people and they help us take care of our teeth. After his check-up, I was surprised that my son gave the dentist a high five in the air. I'm so proud of my little kid. Thanks for the informative post!
