AP The Health Trust, a Campbell-based foundation that funds health initiatives, is launching a campaign to add fluoride to San Jose's tap water.
The effort is aimed at promoting dental health for city residents. San Jose is the largest city in the country to have tap water that has not been fluoridated, and studies have shown a significantly higher rate of tooth decay in San Jose residents compared to statewide averages, reported the San Jose Mercury News.
When added to water, fluoride slows the growth of bacteria and helps prevent tooth decay.
Opponents to the fluoridation efforts say that ingestion of fluoride can be linked to problems with teeth, bones, the brain and the thyroid gland. Advocates counter by saying that the amounts typically added to tap water are far too small to cause this type of damage.
San Jose is not the only city in the Bay Area that does not have fluoridated tap water. Livermore, Brentwood and Bay Point are also fluoride-free.
According to CDC estimates, the cost of fluoridating tap water varies depending on the size of the community. Data suggests that costs can range from 20 cents per person per year, to $8 per person per year.
“For a particular community, the cost may go even higher,” said Dr. Howard Pollick, clinical professor at the University of California-San Francisco School of Dentistry. “It depends on the number of water wells that need to be fluoridated.”
Some estimates place the cost of fluoridating San Jose at around $18 million. Both The Health Trust and San Jose Water Co. believe that number is incorrect, but a more accurate estimate won't be known until an engineering study is completed.

Your "Health Trust" must be abominably ill informed pushing compulsory fluoride treatment in San Jose. In Geelong, Australia many people came to live here after being affected from the exposure to fluoride treatment in other cities that made them very ill. Now Geelong has been fluoridated five weeks ago. People are again becoming ill. City leaders fluoridated WITHOUT ASKING for the affected people's consent. They now do not know what to say and walk away when confronted by mothers who now have crying babies covered in skin rash from the toxic fluoride treatment THEY put in the baby's water. Mothers with affected children find such reactions to fluoride are medically well documented ( see Dr Spittle's latest review of side effects at: http://www.pauapress.com/fluoride/files/1418.pdf ) Is your Health Trust 'just looking the other way' to avoid seeing harm as many authorities did for years when faced with the growing evidence against asbestos, pesticides and tobacco? Or perhaps they are just too plain lazy to look at the evidence. Either way, with this issue it confirms San Jose residents who would like the truth can no longer trust their Health "Trust".

Wake up, San Jose. Do not allow the authorities to add 'medicine' to your water supplies. Arm yourself with facts: read The Fluoride Deception by Christopher Bryson. Fluoride is a poison and causes long-term chronic diseases in you, your pets and crops. America's obesity epidemic is likely to have its roots in the fluoridation fraud. A balanced thyroid is required for full metabolism. Fluoride is proven to lower the output of the thyroid gland; it interferes with its function. Read the research to inform your families and neighbors; learn to speak out; protect your water.

Parts of San Jose including the one I live into, are already fluoridated (read poisoned) due to lobbying of our dear dentist associations which let's be serious are putting their members interests above peoples interests. It's a shame that a city is medicating their own citizens. Its a shame, shame, shame. Shame also to the so called Health Trust of Campbell.
