Australia - First focus on fluoride

First focus on fluoride
THE debate on whether or not to fluoridate Eurobodalla Shire’s water supply will begin tomorrow.Council’s water cycle officer, Harvey Lane, said yesterday that the 12 members of a focus group on fluoridation had been selected and would meet for a one-off discussion.“From 20 nominations the 12 people will represent the NSW Health and Education departments, medical, dentistry, indigenous health and natural health professions and the general community, of whom there are three,” Mr Lane said.
He said their names could not be disclosed at this stage.
“Each person was chosen because they have a unique perspective on the matter,” he said.“We have to ensure that we hear all the arguments on fluoridation.”
Information from the focus group will be sent to all shire residents, who will be invited to submit their views.Mr Lane said it was expected that information days would be held throughout the shire in mid-March and a final report presented to council in May.
