To The Editor: On Aug. 27 an irate writer berated Brevard City Council for the "shocking and ignorant action of removing fluoride from the drinking water supply." What's really shocking is the ignorance and blind refusal of the writer to accept the recent studies and facts (National Research Council of the National Academies and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) available concerning the ineffectiveness and documented dangers of that poisonous chemical, fluoride.
For honest clinical information on this subject, which cannot fit in this letter, please go to www.fluoridealert.org, the Fluoride Action Network and read "Professionals statement to end fluoridation."
This isn't "junk" science. Those who continue to support this poisonous by-product of the phosphate and aluminum industries have been brainwashed by media, dentist and chemical company hype for 60 years. The only people who have benefited from fluoride use are the phosphate and aluminum producers.
Our blind ignorance of its effects have helped them sell a poisonous waste product for a profit. Health benefits are negligible, but damage to teeth and bones is well recorded, especially in young children.

If you really want to poison your bones and bodies with fluoride, just buy toothpaste. It'll help the bottom line of Colgate, etc.
