.......According to the IDPH, fluoride in drinking water helps to improve the quality of life through less tooth decay, reduced time lost from school and work and less money spent to restore, remove or replace decayed teeth. Of the 1,840 water supplies in Illinois, 859 systems adjust fluoride levels at an average cost to of about 50 cents per person per year.
Heintz did not immediately have the cost in Galesburg available but said the IDPH estimate, "sounds about right. It might be a little less" in Galesburg. "For the benefit, it's really cost-effective. The benefits far outweigh any costs incurred by us."
