Fluoride Doesn’t Actually Prevent Cavities, According To New Scientific Review

By
In the United States there is fluoride in most of the tap water, and it really shouldn’t be. Many claim that its presence reduces the presence of cavities/helps prevent them but research shows that it does nothing of the sort.
Before we get into this it is important to note that fluoride is a known carcinogen. While not everyone accepts this title in regards, many are beginning to understand the connection. The American Cancer Society has noted on several occasions that many are concerned about fluoride and a person’s risks of osteosarcoma.
Adding this to our water is something that many are concerned about and because of that, the Cochrane Collaboration took their time to carryout a review in regards. For this report, they looked at several comprehensive and reliable papers in regards to this topic and found that fluoride wasn’t doing anywhere near what we are told it does. There was no statistical impact of cavity reduction when fluoride was added.

They wrote as follows in their conclusion:

“There is insufficient evidence to determine whether water fluoridation results in a change in disparities in caries levels across SES. We did not identify any evidence, meeting the review’s inclusion criteria, to determine the effectiveness of water fluoridation for preventing caries in adults.”
Fluoride itself is dangerous at high levels and excess fluoride causes fluorosis. According to the Cochrane report, any studies done on this topic from before 1975 are quite flawed and should not be taken into consideration on this topic. With the widespread use of fluoridated toothpaste, mouthwash, water and so forth it is a lot easier to get too much fluoride in this day and age.
Even Dr. Mercola has gone over the movement against water fluoridation that so many are trying their best to push. Because this chemical is very hard to remove it is hard to really get water without it if you’re opting for the tap. Even when you filter the water you’ve not eliminated it in the ways you might assume. You can read more on this by clicking here.
Elevated fluoride levels can have serious neurological effects according to Dr. Mercola and that is something we should not ignore. There have been over 200 animal studies supporting this link and yet no one has batted an eye. It is also important to note that Systemic fluoride actually damages teeth and causes staining. This is not something we should be turning the other cheek on. The more we understand the issue before us, the more we can work to combat it and in time reverse it.
To learn more on this topic and fluorosis, in general, please feel free to check out the video below. I for one think this kind of thing is important to touch on. What do you think about all of this and how do you feel about fluoride in tap water? I personally hope that in the future something can be done to right the wrongs we are facing.
