USA - Letter: Green Bay City Council needs to embrace science, end fluoridation
GREEN BAY - Cheers to Fond du Lac, Bonduel, Gillett and Oconto Falls communities who ditched their fluoridation programs. Jeers to Green Bay Water Utility who persist in damaging teeth, promoting disease and harming brains by fluoridating public water supply.
A few recent published studies confirming the anti-science basis of fluoridation include one in the February issue of Journal of Dental Hygiene. Dental fluorosis rose 31.6% between 2001-2002 and 2011-2012. Over half of the teens surveyed had white or tan splotches on their teeth.
February peer-review Nature published fluoride depressed human thyroid hormones in standard concentration of less than 0.5 mg/L. The Green Bay Water Utility maintains almost double that concentration at 0.7mg/L by adding hydrofluorosilicic acid to our water supply.
Also in February, a federal lawsuit filed against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was green-lighted to present over 300 studies documenting fluoride's neurotoxic effects, including one funded by EPA and NIH.
The History Departments at Ohio State University and Miami University published “Toxic Treatment: Fluoride's Transformation from Industrial Waste to Public Health Miracle” in their March issue of Origins: Current Events in Historical Perspective. They concluded that "the only significant problem that would arise from an end of water fluoridation is that the Florida phosphate industry would have to find a different way — no doubt one more expensive and less convenient — to dispose of its toxic water."
It’s time for the City Council to embrace science. Be proactive. Protect human health and children's brains. How many more must be harmed before our council ends fluoridation?
