Sodium Fluoride used to be a hazardous toxic waste product that was dangerous and costly to dispose of - and would frequently lead to expensive lawsuits. Luckily for major producers of this substance - like the Aluminum Company of America, the U.S Public Health Service helped them find a way to turn water pollution into what the CDC refers to as one of the "Ten Great Public Health Achievements in the 20th Century". Progress!
