USA - Letter: No fluoride, no problem

Vermont ranks 40th out of 50 states in fluoridation at 56 percent fluoridated. Consequently, there seemed to be a disconnect in a recent article that made the claim that fluoridation contributes to Vermont's status as one of the healthiest states (Bennington Still Has Work To Do, March 28). The only logical inference is that fluoridation is not contributing Vermont's standing as a healthy state.
This inference is supported by the 2013 Institute of Medicine study, "U.S. Health in International Perspective: Shorter Lives, Poorer Health," that found we Americans compare poorly to our peers in other countries. This comparison holds across every category from cradle to grave. American children even have more cavities than children in 11 of our 17 peer countries and three non-peer countries. Ironically, more Americans consume artificially fluoridated water than in the rest of the world combined, yet the IOM cited the CDC policy on fluoridation as a a positive. In other words, the basis of fluoridationist "proof" of benefit is primarily endorsements from organizations with belief based fluoridation policies, i.e. eminence based rather than evidence based data.
I suggest that Vermonters interested in fluoridation science and advocacy read the 2016 letter to the National Governors Association from consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, water resource manager Robert Bowcock and whistleblower "elite" attorney Michael D. Kohn for evidence of collusion, lack of benefit and proof of harm. It includes scientific and factual citations. For those who don't know their fluoridation history, Attorney Kohn prevailed in a 1990s lawsuit for wrongful termination against the EPA on behalf of Senior Scientist and EPA Toxicologist Dr. Wm. Marcus whose troubles began when he pointed out scientific fraud favorable to fluoridation within the EPA. Dr. Marcus has since said, "Fluoride is a carcinogen by any standard we use. I believe EPA should act immediately to protect the public, not just on the cancer data, but on the evidence of bone fractures, arthritis and mutagenicity and other effects." http://fluoridealert.org/wp-content/uploads/brockovich-2016.pdf
