Fluoride Free Bedford Big Town Event - Online Petition Launch Oct 17 2015
Filmed and produced by Conscience Communications on behalf of Fluoride Free Bedford. Sponsored by the National Pure Water Association (NPWA), Safe Water Information Service (SWIS), Cafe Virtuoso and Fluoride Free Bedford.
On Saturday October 17th 2015, Bedford citizens joined seasoned activists from Fluoride Free Bedford to gather signatures for a petition demanding that the borough council cancel the fluoridation contract with Public Health England and Anglian Water.
Sporting colourful bibs depicting the trademark blue Fluoride Free Bedford logo, the convoy met at the Silver Faces statue before dispersing along busy town centre routes with their clipboards and information packs.
Two and a half hours later, the group had secured hundreds of signatures from shoppers, of which 473 were from people living in the borough. Dee Dell, of Fluoride Free Bedford, announced a cumulative grand total in excess of one thousand signatures to rounds of applause at Café Virtuoso, Bedford, one of the event’s sponsors. She said:
“One thousand signatures is a really significant figure that we feel the council can’t ignore. We will present those signatures to the borough council which means they will have to debate the whole issue at their next meeting.”
Café owner, Guilda Akopians who had prepared a special buffet with healthy treats for the group, said:
“I saw evidence that it [fluoride] dulls the mind, the activity, and for me it’s important to have full faculties without the intake of external substances. It’s educational to have a group like this distributing the information.”
