Australia - Cr Lisa Intemann puts forward motion for fluoridation information

UPDATED information about water fluoridation is being sought.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council general manager Craig Swift-McNair will write to the NSW Department of Health and the National Health and Medical Research Council requesting detailed information on studies and programs relating to water fluoridation.
Cr Lisa Intemann put forward the water fluoridation motion at Wednesday night's council meeting.
She said once the information was received, the council could consider what it might do from there.
"This is a matter where we are simply asking for the authorities to provide us with the information that is relevant to our questions," Cr Intemann said.
Cr Intemann acknowledged she was a well known opponent of water fluoridation.
"I have no agenda regarding where we go with this," she said.
Cr Adam Roberts said it was his view the fluoridation of the council's water supply should stop.
Mayor Peter Besseling said there was a range of views within the council and the broader community.
"I think it is imperative that councils have as much information as they can possibly get from reliable and trusted sources," he said.
Cr Mike Cusato agreed it was a good idea to get the information.
Water fluoridation began in the Hastings in February 2012 after the council referred the water fluoridation decision to the state government in 2004.
The council in May 2012 considered a petition containing thousands of signatures calling for a community poll on water fluoridation.
The then council administrator Neil Porter ruled out a poll during the September 2012 council election and put a decision about a poll in the newly-elected council's hands.
The Roads and Infrastructure portfolio within council, which considered the matter, decided it was appropriate to gather updated information on water fluoridation.
Cr Intemann assured the community that the council had previous community submissions about water fluoridation on record.
