USA - Letter: Why is fluoride in our water supply?
Regarding a teenager’s recent letter endorsing water fluoridation, I’m surprised his organization, YES!, is teaching him to support such a suspect and unnecessary program.
Basic fact is that public potable water should be as safe and pure as possible without medicine to treat any kind of human ailment, including tooth decay. Fluoride, like aspirin, vitamin C or any other perceived healthful substance should be a matter of choice, not forced on the general public. Fluoride is plentiful in the food chain, in all toothpastes, is free to kids at school and clinics. So what’s it doing in our common water supply?
I encourage the writer to think for himself and to research both sides of all issues.
A good source book that presents the history of water fluoridation and the makeup of this controversial chemical is “The Fluoride Deception” by Christopher Bryson.
The adult teachers in the program definitely should read the book and initiate open discussion.
