CARL JUNCTION, MO.--- The Carl Junction City Council has given final approval to discontinue the fluoride additive in the public water system once the current supply runs out. Carl Junction voters supported a ballot question to start fluoridating back in 2005. City council members cite more recent studies questioning the benefits of fluoride and, in some cases, pointing to potential dangers. The CDC says fluoride prevents tooth decay and is safe in controlled amounts.
