Australia - Anti-fluoride protesters vow to fight

ANTI-FLUORIDE protesters again made their presence felt in the Lismore Council Chambers hoping the debate could be re-ignited.

Cr Vanessa Ekins had a motion requesting Rous Water conduct "an independent community consultation" on the issue and to be "guided by the results" prior to seeking a directive to fluoridate Lismore's water supply.
The motion had to be withdrawn after it was revealed the directive to fluoridate had already been gazetted by the State Government.
NSW chief medical officer, Dr Kerry Chant, said the directive was gazetted last Friday, February 7.
It means the only way Lismore council could now opt out of fluoridating would be to seek approval from the director-general of NSW Health.
Cr Ekins expressed her surprise at how quickly the wheels of bureaucracy had turned on this matter and vowed to continue the fight including a possible legal challenge.
