A national report into dental health has found rising levels of tooth decay among(fluoridated) Australian children.
The study by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare found almost half of six-year-olds have had tooth decay.
One of the authors Professor Kaye Roberts-Thomson says that is a significant increase since the mid-1990s, when levels of decay were at their lowest.
She says after dental habits improved in the 1970s and '80s, complacency is again creeping in.
"People these days are drinking less tap water. There's a whole lot of other options including bottled water which doesn't on the whole have much fluoride in it so people weren't drinking water," she said.
"I think the practice of cleaning children's teeth twice a day with toothpaste with fluoride in it is usual for most children but for a number of children it's not."

They just can't accept that fluoride just does not work - even if they don't drink the tap water everyone is exposed to large quantities of fluoride through their food and drink that is made or processed with fluoridated water.

Agree, children are drinking all sorts of things aerated water (soft drink), there is plenty of data to show fluorosilicic acid causes dental fluorosis. This is the reason why children have worse dental health, it clearly states children should only use a peasize amount of toothpaste containing fluoride and not swallow it, call the doctor if does? will cause systemic damage. How big is a peasize?? Little pea,big pea????
