GALESBURG — You might know that giving your child a chocolate bar for lunch isn’t the healthiest option.
Instead, you might pack a bologna sandwich on white bread, a tube of yogurt and a juice pouch — better balanced than just a sugar-filled candy bar.
But it might surprise you to know that the full lunch has about two teaspoons more of sugar, and contains more sugar than a child should consume in one day.
Added sugar — the non-naturally occurring stuff mixed in processed foods — has been linked to obesity because it’s high in calories and low in almost any other valuable nutrient. It also could have adverse effects on a child’s blood pressure, and it can cause tooth decay.............
