fluoride's risks

fluoride's risks

Residents who are unhappy about City Commission lowering the amount of fluoride being added to our water might be interested in the following:

Dr. Dean Burk was a research biochemist with the federal government for 47 years including 35 years with the U.S. National Cancer Institute. He states: "Everything causes cancer? Conceivably even a single electron at the other side of the universe. The real question is how likely is any one particular cause? In point of fact, fluoride causes more human cancer death, and causes it faster than any other chemical."

In 1980, Dr. Burke published an article in which he stated 40,000 Americans were killed each year from fluoridation. He also made abundantly clear that his figures took into account any corrections for age, race and sex. He was challenged, both in an England court and in the Pittsburgh court. As plaintiff, he faced the most learned individuals of the fluoride lobby, beat them down, forced them to admit they were wrong and won the lawsuits.

Burk was an internationally known author, editor, researcher and contributor to numerous technical journals. His many achievements and honors are given in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.

Our government first began their drive to fluoridate the waters of our cities in the middle '40s, an article from the Editorial Department of the ADA Journal stated: "W do know that the use of drinking water containing as little as 1.2 to 3.0 parts per million of fluoride will cause such developmental disturbances in bones as osteosclerosis, spondylosis and osteopetrosis, as well as goiter, and we cannot afford to run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances in applying what is at present a doubtful procedure intended to prevent development of dental disfigurements among children."

I think we should be thankful that we have people on our City Commission who are looking out for our health.

" The first thing that we need to look at with the claims in this article is whether it makes sense.

The claim is basically that one out of approximately 7500 people across the country die each year from fluoridation. To say the least, this appears to be an extremely high, and thus unbelievable number. Those sick and dieing would probably be 1/700 and possibly higher. I have not seen anything to even approach this number.

The claim that fluoride causes cancer faster than any other element is not a fact, actually is is untrue.

The claims about Dr. Burke may or not be true. The nature of scientific claims is that they are tested and constantly reevaluated. Claims as sensational as these have not made ripples that carry into the nonscientific community or into the current scientific journals I have read. It is the lack of impact and visibility that these deaths and sickness would create that makes me cautious of the negative claims. "

The case against fluoride, by Joseph Mercola.

Dr. Mercola: Drinking fluoridated water is Damaging Your Bones, Brain, Kidneys, and Thyroid

One of the central challenges in this fluoridation debate is that the United States claims to be one of the most advanced scientific countries in the world, yet we're still engaging in a practice that is questionable at best, and extremely harmful at worst. Dr Mercola is teaming up with the Fluoride Action Network to eradicate fluoridation in the US and Canada. Join Us.

Modern science indicates that ingesting fluoride does not reduce tooth decay but does expose the entire population to fluoride's scientifically proven adverse health effects.
