FAN Bulletin 1079: FAN DVD now available online

FAN Bulletin 1079: FAN DVD now available online
July 7, 2009,
Ellen and I are back from a visit to Mauritius where we helped with efforts to keep a huge trash incinerator from being built on that island. Ellen took a laptop with her with a wireless connection and she was able to keep track of fluoridation events while we were there, and even made some additions to the web page.

Before we get to the the exciting news about the FAN DVD, we have some sad news and some very good news to report.

Sad news from Australia

We heard on our return that long time Aussie fluoridation fighter Glen Walker has passed away at the grand old age of 95 years. Glen was a tireless fighter against fluoridation for many, many years. He wrote the book, Fluoridation: Poison on Tap. An Indictment of the Victorian Government of Inquiry, Melbourne 1979-80, into the Fluoridation of Victorian Water Supplies (Magenta Press, Mulgrave, Victoria, 1982). For many years Glen has kept people throughout Australia (and beyond) up to date on the developments pertaining to fluoridation via his newsletter Australian Fluoridation News. His voice, energy and commitment to this cause will be sadly missed by many Australians, and many others throughout the world.

Good news from Oregon

Citizens in Oregon were able to prevent yet another attempt to introduce mandatory fluoridation into the state. Please send your congratulations to Kimberly Kaminsky, kim@safewateroregon.org, who heads up the group Oregon Citizens for Safe Drinking Water. In a note to OSDW members Kim wrote:

Once again, Oregon Citizens for Safe Drinking Water, along with our allies, were able to successfully defeat yet another attempt to mandate fluoridation for the state of Oregon. Representative Mitch Greenlick introduced HB 3156 which would have required all water districts that serve 10,000 or more people to add fluoride compounds to the drinking water. We were able to mobilize quickly to ensure this bill would not pass, and our early action paid off. The bill didn't even get a hearing!

...Now that the legislature has adjourned, we can all breath a little easier, at least until the next legislative session in 2011. But we cannot rest on our laurels. Forces are building for a major push in the next two years. Federal stimulus money directed at Oregon for the purpose of fluoridation has been delivered to state agencies. Portland is now the biggest city in the country that doesn't fluoridate, and it has become a prime target for those seeking to impose fluoridation upon us all...We remain a festering sore on the fluoridation map.

Troubling news from New Jersey

Meanwhile, other efforts to introduce mandatory fluoridation into other states continue. This includes NJ. See the fairly balanced article from the New Jersey Monthly (July 05, 2009) Roiling The Waters, A bill to mandate fluoride in New Jersey's public water supply has pitted some natural allies against each other. Can dentists, environmentalists, and other groups resolve their differences? This article can be accessed from our latest news section at http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/United-States/New-Jersey/Roiling-The-Waters .

FAN's DVD online.

With all this state and federal money being used (or rather misused) to force fluoridation on unsuspecting citizens via the stealth of state mandates, it becomes more important than ever to get people more informed on this issue. Thus, I am very happy to tell you that we have now posted FAN's 28-minute DVD "Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation" online. It is the top item on our website . Immediately below this is the Professionals' Statement calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide.

You can still order individual copies of the tape from the website, or in bulk from us at info@fluoridealert.org . For 5 copies or more you can get the DVD plus its fancy package for $7 a copy (plus postage), or for $3 a copy (plus postage), if you are willing to settle for a DVD with the professional label in a plain box.

The simplest way you can really help the campaign to end fluoridation worldwide is to get as many people as you know to visit our website. There they can watch the DVD at their leisure and if they have professional qualifications we hope that what they see and hear will move them to sign the Professionals' Statement. With every professional name added to this statement we get one step closer to ending this foolish practice worldwide. Our current total stands at 2,568.

If people need more arguments they can find a list of 50 (50 Reasons to Oppose Fluoridation by Paul and Michael Connett) located on the right hand side of the web site. These were published in 2004. An updated list of 10 arguments was added (Facts on Fluoride) after the National Research Council report Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Review of EPA's standards was published in 2006.

Thanks for your patience in this long struggle and for everything you are doing to help this campaign.

Paul Connett
