USA - Clinic brings out smiles
In 88% fluoridated North Carolina:NYSCOF
"“The problem of access to care continues to be a sad reality in North Carolina,” states a press release issued by the N.C. Dental Society. “One out of every four North Carolina children enters kindergarten with untreated dental disease. Even the high level of charitable care delivered by dentists every year will never solve the problem of untreated dental disease among our children.”"

"Most dentists neglect low-income Americans all year, except for one “Give-Kids-A-Smile” day, filled with media events, feel-good stories, and corporate sponsorship, But when the media spotlight goes out, so do the dentists. At the same time, organized dentistry fights hard against any viable group willing to alleviate the US dental health epidemic year-round such as Dental Therapists (DT's), denturists (false teeth makers) working directly with the public and solo-practicing dental hygienists.
What is needed is to train DTs in this country. Now they are only allowed in Alaska where they were trained for two or three years in New Zealand. DT's drill, fill and pull teeth as effectively as dentists and have been working for decades in developed countries. As a result, rural Alaskans are not pulling their own teeth and children in New Zealand have no unfilled cavities because they are seen in school by Dental Therapists every year. Organized dentistry is at odds with public health dentists about this. The latter favor Dental Therapists. Organized dentistry doesn't like any group infringing upon its lucrative monopoly and uses it's political might and deep pockets filled with corporate case to lobby against legalizing US Dental Therapists - even if it means Americans must suffer with dental neglect 364 days a year.
Instead they focus legislators attention on water fluoridation because dentist would rather treat the water than treat a patient with a low bank account. "

NYSCOF, I'm starting to see more of your writings around regarding the corporate ill-effects of the American Dental Asssociation. I appreciate you being on board. Yes, I agree dental health aide therapist are in need across the U.S. along with independent practices for dental hygienist and denturist. Theis will help give people access and affordable dental care. Blessings---gary www.wysda.org
