Q: My toothpaste says if I swallows some, he should call poison control. What's poisonous about toothpaste?

A: We checked with the American Dental Association to get your answer. And it has to do with fluoride and small children. Small children can swallow enough fluoride to cause fluoride poisoning. What's more, fluoride is classified as a drug. So the Food and Drug Administration required the warning for fluoride toothpastes manufactured after April, 1997.
