USA - Fluoride considered by Sonoma County, CA

SONOMA COUNTY, CA β€” County officials here are considering introducing fluoride into public water supplies as a means of addressing rising tooth decay and oral disease rates among children, according to a May 14 article in The Press Democrat.
A county-commissioned study revealed that 39 percent of Sonoma County schoolchildren have untreated tooth decay; that figure rises to 60 percent for low-income children. Thirteen percent of children in the lowest grade levels never have been to a dentist, the study found.
At a recent meeting of county supervisors, Sonoma County Water Agency officials said they would work with health officials to devise a fluoridation plan; however, they cautioned it would be expensive and it would require agreement from the cities that get water from the agency. The agency wholesales water to nine cities, the article said.
Supervisor Paul Kelley told agency officials during the meeting, β€œIt is not as easy as you make it sound. You will get pushback on it.”
