USA - Tipp City OKs adding fluoride to water

Tipp City OKs adding fluoride to water
The process is to begin in 30 days, according to city ordinance, unless a referendum is filed.

Tipp City — The City Council, which last month reviewed a proposal to bring fluoride levels to 1 milligram per liter, voted 7-0 Monday night to approve an ordinance to add fluoride to water from the new treatment plant.
City Manager David Collinsworth said the city has received little input on the proposal to add the fluoride as required by state law for communities of 5,000 or more people.
He said the city discussed the fluoridation proposal during the planning for the Northern Area Water Authority treatment plant, which went on line this year.
Councilman Don Ochs said he received two calls regarding fluoridation, both from people who did not oppose it but wanted to remake sure the council was aware a 1970 vote to fluoridate resulted in a successful referendum.
Fluoridation will begin in 30 days unless a referendum is filed.
The city received grants of about $25,000 from the Ohio Department of Health for a one year supply of fluoride plus related equipment for the water plant. Chuck Smith, a long-time local dentist, advocated for the fluoridation at the council's Sept. 17 review of the ordinance and again on Monday. He called fluoridation "the most politicized health issue in the United States." He said he considered fluoridation at therapeutic levels, such as that planned, "a wonderful thing," particularly for children. Contact this reporter at (937) 335-4357 or nbowman@DaytonDailyNews.com.

Source of Fluorides? “The Geology of Florida” 1997, Univ. Press of Florida, page 143: “In addition to uranium, fluorine is an economical byproduct of phosphoric-acid production. The fluorine from the rock reacts with silica to form SiF4 gas. During acid production this gas is recovered as fluorosilicic acid in wet scrubbers that are part of the environmental-protection equipment. Fluorosilicic acid is widely used in preparation of chemical compounds and in the treatment of public drinking water.

National Academy of Sciences’ report for Congress, 1993, page 11 notes: “The subcommittee found inconsistencies in the fluoride toxicity data base and gaps in knowledge. Accordingly, it recommends further research in the areas of fluoride intake, dental fluorosis, bone strength and fractures, and carcinogenicity.” This book is available online. see also pages: 5, 16, 30, 34, 41, 44-45, 128 and 129. Re: Calcium. The National Academy of Sciences’ report for Congress:”Health Effects of Ingested Fluoride”, page 128: “High dietary concentrations of dietary calcium and other cations that form insoluble complexes with fluoride can reduce fluoride absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.”

Tipp City OKs what fluoride in the water? I hereby prescribe adding calcium to your diets. The US Dept. of Health & Human Services “Toxicological Profile for Fluorides, Hydrogen Fluoride, and Fluorine (F) 1993 notes on page 112: “Subsets of the population may be unusually susceptable to the toxic effects of fluoride and its compounds. These populations include the elderly, people with deficiencies of calcium, magnesium, and/or vitamin C, and people with cardiovascular and kidney problems.”

“it cuts into our profits” is misleading and misguided.

Would it surprise you to know that there are MORE dental practices in fluoridated communities than non-fluoridated communities?

Would it also surprise you to know that the ADA and other dental groups just spent over $150,000 to try and fluoridate Juneau, Alaska? http://www.juneauempire.com/stories/093007/loc_20070930051.shtml

Follow the money, people. Why is the ADA pushing fluoridation so hard? Altruism?? Me thinks not….

Yeah I mean what does the ADA,AMA,CDC,or the World Health Orginization know about flouride anyway? It’s only been studied for the last 60 or so years. It must all be a big conspiracy. We dental professionsal secretly don’t want you to have it anyway,it cuts into our profits.

I understand you personal attack fallacy, and your humorous European teeth remark, but in an issue where thousands of people will be affected I think it best to refer to the most current and soundly based science.

Damon,

“I will accept lung cancer, but healthy teeth are an abomination!!!”

My point is this, if someone is truly concerned about her health, she isn’t puffing on a cancer stick while demanding they remove fluoride from her tap water.

Choose your battles wisely, or people won’t take you seriously.

Besides, have you seen European teeth?

As long as Tipp City invests in a mass transit train system with the rest of Ohio, then I’m all for poisoning children with fluoride.

I work with a lady who got her knickers in a knot over the health risks of fluoride being added to her city’s tap water. I turned to her and asked, “Don’t you smoke?”

Here are 10 quick reasons to oppose fluoride. They deal with misconceptions and false reasoning of fluoridation. http://www.fluoridealert.org/fluoride-facts.htm

There are a ton of reasons to oppose fluoridation and mostly unfounded reasons to support it. There are two recent studies on fluoridation. The most recent and comprehensive is the National Research Council’s report http://www.fluoridealert.org/health/epa/nrc/press01.html

Double-blind tested “toxic/allergic to fluorine-bearing compounds (fluorides)”, and aware 50% of all legally prescribed drugs (100% of all those used illegally) contain a fluoride base, I’m therefore aware “fluoride” is a bio-accumulative protoplasmic enzyme toxin (mutagenic, carcinogenic, teratogenetic)and that this fact has been deliberately withheld from public scrutiny for over 60 years, I’d suggest a behind-the-scenes investigattion before buying the water fluoridation “pig-in-a-poke.”

Fluoridation is contrary to fundamental medical principles: * Hippocratic oath — First, do no harm. (Fluorosis IS harm.) * Principle of informed consent — Patient has the right to refuse medication. * Modern toxicology — Fluoride is a deadly poison. * Modern pharmacology — Why force everyone to drink unmeasured amounts of F? * Modern endocrinology — F is an endocrine disruptor, according to the NRC (2006).

Take Action to End Fluoridation

http://www.FluorideAction.Net

Over 900 dentists, physicians, scientists and environmentalists urge Congress to stop water fluoridation until Congressional hearings are conducted. They cite new scientific evidence that fluoridation, long promoted to fight tooth decay, is ineffective and has serious health risks. (http://www.fluorideaction.org/statement.august.2007.html)

Gee, Bill you a dentist now? I’ve been a dental assistant for over ten years and I’ve worked in urban and rural areas and let me tell you, you can always tell which kids live out in the country with well water and which ones get city water. Yes it’s true, you should cut back on sugar and soda but flouride in the water makes a huge difference in the oral health of children.

A recent study shows that “The majority of dental professionals surveyed were unaware of the current understanding of fluoride’s predominant posteruptive mode of action through remineralization of incipient carious lesions.” http://highwire.stanford.edu/cgi/medline/pmid;17899898

The facts in this story are misleading. Fluoride ions in water does occur naturally, but silicofluoride fluoride, which is used to fluoridate water, is highly corrsive. Silicoflorides are scrubber liquors from the fertilizer industry that is a toxic substance controlled by the EPA. The best way to prevent tooth decay is to limit your intake of sugar and by getting fluoride treatments from your dentist. Vote no against silicoluroides.
