It's better to be safe than sorry on fluoride

To the editor:
In response to your editorial, "A chance to end NA fluoride fight" (Feb. 27), reasonable people, whether they believe in fluoride in water or not, would agree that they do not want government forcing them to injest chemicals. Most people want to be in control of their lives. The lobbyists are pushing fluoridation and it's all about making a lot of money.
If I voted for fluoride and then found out that it may not be safe, I would certainly want the board of health to take it out of the water until it could be proven otherwise. Where is the common sense? Read the warning on toothpaste label's. It says, "Warning, keep out of reach of children under 6 years of age. If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away". Did you see the word "poison?" It's just a matter of time before lawyers create a class action lawsuit against our town.
Who are you to suggest we settle this issue by who we do or do not vote for. You seem more concerned about the lawsuit than the safety of our children.
I applaud Diane Battistello for looking out for the health of residents of North Attleboro and not playing politics. Thank goodness someone is. The selectmen are forcing the lawsuit by not complying with the board of health.
