  • Hi All,

I think a weekly update would be good, that way it would be easier to read the weekly summary.

Here is a reply from my local water company after I sent them an email:-

    Dear Mr XXXXXX

Thank you for your email of 11 March requesting information on Fluoride and if we add it to the mains water supply.

Low levels of Fluoride occur naturally in the environment. Fluoride is not added to any of the drinking water supplied by Wessex Water. Environmental Health Department are responsible for any decisions regarding the addition of fluoride to drinking water. Customers are advised to contact their local health office for further information.

If you have any further questions about this of any other matter please contact me by phone 0845 600 4 600 or by Email.

    Yours sincerely

  • Bit different from my understanding it is the Primary Care Trust that initiates the first step and asks the Strategic Health Authority to look at the feasibility of fluoridation. If they agree it is practical and cost effective (I'm sure they will)they after 3 months "consultaion" instruct the water company to implement it. (The water company can't refuse)
That is what is happening in Southampton. As the previous letter I posted from the SHA show they are waiting for further guidence from the Department of Health as to how to conduct the consultation.
