There’s a dark side to the lucrative market in new medical drugs.  Nearly 1 in 3 of them will kill the patient or cause life-threatening side-effects - despite years of safety trials.  It then takes an average of 7 years before drug regulators act & sometimes a dangerous drug stays on the market for over a decade, before it’s finally banned or an alert is issued.  During that delay, 100s of 1,000s of patients may have been killed or harmed as doctors unwittingly continue prescribing it.  This is often the result of bureaucratic incompetence by the regulator & its cosy relationship with the drug co;  deliberate hiding of inconvenient data, & drug co, executives threatening independent researchers who’ve discovered the drug’s dangers.
