Dear Anti-Fluoridation Friends,

We are now facing national water fluoridation enforced by central government.  This is extremely serious. 

We know for Boris Johnson, popularity is key; he dislikes 'enforcement', preferring take-up through 'willing choice'.  The government will be wary of anything that looks likely to lose votes or incur the wrath of libertarian back benchers.  An effective alternative that is cheaper,  more environment-friendly, and which offers choice, would be hard to argue against.  But opposition without a solution gets you nowhere.  My 'solution' would be fluoride tablets, free and available to all who want them, by prescription or available over-the-counter.  At no cost, the argument is lost, that the only way to deliver fluoride to the poorest is through drinking water.    

The Government must be informed (again!) that fluoridation has not been proved safe or effective, is hugely contentious, extremely unpopular and will be widely and vociferously opposed, as it was by the HAF campaign in Southampton, that ended in its famous victory.  Matt Hancock should be reminded that WF is an invasive health measure like vaccination, but unlike vaccination, is enforced without choice or individual consent.  It's critical he is made aware of medical research and evidence against fluoridation that could make a legal challenge successful.   FAN's legal challenge in America may come in useful.
