Rethink fluoride
in Atlantic City water
Regarding the Aug. 25 letter, "Don't add fluoride to Sea Isle water":
I agree with letter writer Paul Beeber, president of the New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. Atlantic City has been adding fluoride to the city's water supply for some 40 years, with a recent hiatus of several years for a change of equipment. It's time for the mayor and City Council to determine anew whether or not fluoridation ought to be continued.
Recent studies are troubling. They point to fluoridation as being responsible for thyroid damage, the weakening of bone tissue and decreases in the IQ of children.
My suggestion is to invite recognized experts to make presentations covering the latest studies. Let one state the case for fluoridation and the other state the case against fluoridation. The people, especially the children, are owed that time and attention.
