Dr Caroline Lucas MEP has said that Southampton's public consultation on adding fluoride to water was a sham, after a local campaigner was refused permission to speak at a public meeting.
Dr Lucas says the public has a right to know of the epidemic of fluorisis (mottled teeth) affecting Ireland's children, where fluoride has been added to the drinking water. Fluoride has also been linked to thyroid problems, skeletal fluorisis, bone cancer and mental health issues.
Green policy is not to put fluoride (an industrial waste by-product) into the water, but to instead concentrate on health education and tougher consumer labelling, to encourage less sugar consumption).
